Project KAJPLATS, jointly developed by Graphic Interface, Cadpoint and Tessel Systems, wins the prestigious faceIT2000 competition award:
From http://www.itbof.com, official IT Bygg och Fastighet 2002 website:
IT Construction & Real Estate 2002 is a sector-wide programme for implementing IT in construction and facilities management.
IT is presently being used in many separate processes but co-ordination and information exchange is still lacking. For the future we expect IT tools to exchange intelligent information throughout the construction and facilities management processes chain and thereby provide a prerequisite for vigorous rationalisation.
In order to promote such a development, the programme's aim is to create a common IT platform for the sector. This will be achieved through efforts within research and development, standardization and implementation.
The programme is managed by an industry owned consortium and supported by public research funds.
Tessel Systems has implemented XML interface to exchange object's geometry and attributes between its own HyperDoc (leading application for integrating drawings and database applications for Facilities Management) and POINT (leading Nordic CAD application for architectural design). Project KAJPLATS has been organized, documented and submitted to the faceIT2000 competition by Graphic Interface AB, a company that distributes HyperDoc-based solutions in Sweden since 1994.
It is essential that the faceIT2000 competition was held in Sweden, arguably one of the most advanced Facilities Management market places in the world. The Jury included known persons from the state administration and industry:
The Jury's decision (translated from Swedish):
The winning title "Year's Best IT Application in Construction and Facilities Management" is given to the entry nr. 9, "KAJPLATS" for - on the basis of well documented and professional concept - in a convincing, practically oriented and realistic way it builds a bridge between construction and management of facilities based on established construction, CAD and IT standards, and for it is conclusively judged as contributing to popularisation of a common IT platform in the construction sector. The Jury hopes also that the project will be able to influence the current efforts to establish AEC-specific XML standards in a direction reflecting Swedish and Nordic building processes.
Stockholm, August 2000
An award of faceIT2000 caliber provides us with a valuable confirmation that the strong position of HyperDoc-based solutions is not accidental. The product combines many practical features with far-reaching open concept that allows for integration of IT technology with multitude of processes collectively referred to as construction and management of facilities.
